Why Mailbox Valet?

Signing up for a privacy-focused email is a lot of work, and requires some not-so-private steps.

Pricing

We will bill you once a year for the annual rate of the email service, plus the concierge fee.
The total price is currently 180 USD (incl. taxes).
We prefer XMR payments, but also accept other methods (see Detailed FAQ below).

How do I sign up?

1. Send us a Simplex message with the domain and username you'd like to use.
2. We will reply within a few business days with the payment details.
3. Once payment is confirmed, we will work with you to setup the email (you will need to update your domain's DNS records yourself or give us access to do it for you).
4. After the account is setup in the system, we will send you the credentials via Simplex.

Detailed FAQ

Why did you chose your current provider?
Proton has been following the same trend we see in the valley: moving into related businesses instead of focusing on being great at the current one. Plus, many of their add-on features require private information to be disclosed (identity theft protection, email migration). Tuta is going in the same direction: adding a calendar instead of accpeting privacy-focused cryptos.
Will you always use this provider?
Maybe. Our goal is use the most private service we can find. If we discover anything suspicious about our current provider, or we discover a better service, we will migrate to a different provider. In case that happens, you will be notified of our intentions to change and will be given the option to continue with us or not.
What payment methods and currencies do you accept?
XMR - we will send you the wallet address.
Cash - if you are in Canada we might be able to accept cash, please send us a Simplex message for details.
Barter - we are open to collaborations. Please contact us in Simplex as well.
What information do you collect?
Domain name, DNS records (if you are using your own domain), username, date of payment, Simplex account for contact.
How long do you keep the information?
Until you tell us that you no longer need our services.
Where is the information stored?
DNS records are only stored in the email system's settings, which is protected by standard security measures (password + 2FA). All other information is stored in an encrypted database in our premises and only 1 person knows the password.
Do you have access to my emails?
Once you set your password only you have access to them.
What should I choose for recovery method?
On your first login, you will be asked to choose a recovery method. We recommend using a recovery code.
We don't recommend a recovery email because it will tie your newly created private account with another (probably less private) address.
You also have the option of using our account (manager option) as a recovery method (if you choose this and ask to reset your password, we will send you the new password through the Simplex acount you used at sign up). However, we don't recommend this either as it decreases security.
What happens after a year?
After 10 months of signing up, we will contact you via Simplex (using the account you provided at sign up), requesting the payment of the upcoming year. If you do not pay by the 11th month, we will cancel your account at the end of the 12th month.
How do I cancel my account?
You can cancel your account at any time by sending us a Simplex message (with the same account you used for sign up). We are unable to provide refunds at this time.
Is your service completely private and anonymous?
No. Your request to sign up is reviewed and processed by a human. We will see the data you provide us. We might make this automated in the future.
Can anybody sign up?
We reserve the right to refuse service to domain and user names that are against humanity (including in all its disguised forms).
Where are you located?
We are currently located in Canada. Despite some deplorable moves towards internet censorship, we still have PIPEDA, which is a strong pro-privacy law. That law recommends that companies only collect the information necessary to run their business, which is exactly what we do.
What about the children?
Since we don't keep much information about you, there is not much that overzealous burocrats could obtain from us.
